The Adventures of Basil and Moebius

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius - Lizzy John, Ryan Schifrin, Adam Archer, Robert Atkins, Larry Hama

Disclaimer: I received a copy of this book through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Basil Fox is an ex SAS soldier relegated to the Queen's Guard after a botched mission, Alaric Moebius is a playboy thief who has been dating Basil's girlfriend Cathy whilst he was away on his last mission. When Basil arrives at his girlfriends apartment to find her being kidnapped by 'Spring heeled Jack', he meets Moebius and together they try to find her before she ends up like Jacks other victims.

From there they form an uneasy partnership and Basil agrees to assist Moebius with his work as they embark on 3 adventures which sees them coming into contact with 'The Collector' who employs them to find rare artefacts for him.

This is a highly enjoyable set of adventure stories that use a fair bit of humour with most of the fun being had with the quips going back and forth between Basil and Moebius. Their relationship is one that strengthens with each story, each one thinking that they are the glue holding the operation together but both relying on each other when the going gets tough. I liked both of the characters, they were engaging and very well portrayed as lovable rogues.

The art was quite inconsistent, each story seemed to have completely different styles, this made it harder to connect visually with the work as characters features changed so much with each story. The stories more than make up for it but consistency would have elevated this to a higher rating.

Stories included are: The Curse of Spring-Heel Jack, Bloodstone and The Devil's Handshake.
